Looking younger with great hair

May 5, 2008 - Leave a Response

For some women, the urge to find ways to look younger comes on rather suddenly. Most often, this epiphany occurs in the mid-30s to early 40s. It may happen one morning when you’re just getting ready for work. You look in the mirror on this bright sunny day, which highlights your skin in such an unflattering way! What’s this? Wrinkles on your forehead that weren’t there yesterday – or at least not that you noticed. Your inspection continues, on to the little crow’s feet insinuating their way into full-blown oldness! Maybe you’re just having a bad hair day, but whatever the reason, the telltale signs of age are there, as plain as the nose on your face. Now you’re completely alarmed and depressed. What to do? You need a personalized list of ways to look younger that works for you.

The truth is, age comes upon all of us. It’s how you handle it that makes all the difference. Here are some positive steps that take the bite out of the inevitable, while making the most of your assets.

1. Your skin displays the most obvious signs of age. If you’ve been a sun worshipper, stop! Not only does the sun dry your skin unmercifully, but skin cancer is on the rise. Avoid these problems with a high SPF sunscreen, used daily. This should top your list of ways to look younger. This works wonders.

2. Many face creams have UV-protective ingredients. When you’re young, you probably don’t use face cream as religiously as you should, thinking aging skin is oh so far in the future. The sooner you start using day and night creams daily, the better.

3. Regular exercise helps tone muscles, promotes good circulation and gets rid of flab in undesirable, age-related locations. Exercise daily!

4. Your wardrobe may age you more than you think. Many women get stuck in some bygone era of fashion. Update your look, such that you appear to be on the same planet, in the 21st century. However, do not, not, try to look like a teen or 20-something. That strategy will backfire and you’ll only succeed in looking a bit foolish.

5. Check out your hair style. Do you have a style in keeping with the times and your age? Women sometimes just stick with a do that was cool 20 years ago, but isn’t today. Look through some hair style magazines at a salon or from the magazine rack. Go online and find a virtual hair styling site, where you can try different looks without risking disaster.

Remember, there’s an upside to aging. Your years of life experience do give you an edge over younger people. You’re more self-confident and savvy. Although wisdom has its price, you can strike an equitable balance between age and beauty. Words such as elegant, sophisticated and smart should be your bywords when planning your strategy on ways to look younger. Now go for it! Be beautiful and graceful!

Since Mattel brought out the Barbie doll in 1959, little girls around the world have played with her and collected all the merchandise. The Barbie franchise is a very lucrative one with clothes, accessories, games, play houses and play vehicles for sale. Owners like to imagine the doll in different scenarios with outfits to match. The doll has been around for a long time but she has kept up with the computer age. Barbie dress up games are a recent innovation on the Internet.

The idea behind these games is to dress Barbie in a drop and drag format and the player is encouraged to use her imagination. In addition to dresses, tops and skirts, there are shoes to choose and accessories. The menu will give a display of selections, which will also include jewelry and choices of hair style and make up. The games are particularly popular in Japan and there are Japanese hosted web sites, devoted to the games.

Just like a real girl, Barbie must decide what to wear for different situations. It’s all the fun of getting ready to go out that girls enjoy and the Barbie dress up games make experimentation with different looks, really easy. Singer and actress Hilary Duff has designed some of the outfits. There are different sections, such as Barbie Party Girl where the player is invited to choose a prom dress, ball gown or cocktail dress for the occasion. There is also a Dress Up Beautiful Bride section, a costume party dress and a Barbie in Gowns category. Other styles include flower girl dresses and a Barbie Dance section.

As with all fashion collections, Barbie’s wardrobe is divided into seasons with outfits appropriate to summer, spring, autumn and winter. Even boyfriend Ken gets in on the act with his own game. There are other versions of these sorts of games on the Internet, available since the mid-1990s but the Barbie dress up games are probably the most popular. Dressing up is a big part of the appeal of the doll and she has always been a well dressed lady!

Barbie is a busy lady with careers, hobbies and a hectic social life. Her wardrobe is extensive, as shown in the Barbie Dress Up games. There are formal outfits, such as a purple satin gown and a faux fur trimmed cape. There are specialist costumes like the Barbie cheerleading outfit. Barbie still likes to look good when she is casually dressed, in jeans or shorts. She also looks great in sportswear and there is an extensive line of pajamas and nightgowns.

What about natural hair care

Our society is becoming more and more obsessed with how we look. It is becoming common place for people to have surgical procedures to alter some portion of their body or face that they are not happy with. People are in constant search for products to make them look and feel younger. Over time we are going to start looking like carbon copies of each other. I am a believer that the aging process is inevitable and a part of our life that we should embrace rather than fight.

My family has been blessed with the genes that keep us looking younger than our years. My mother and sister and I are often thought to be younger than what we are. I contribute this more to our nutritional upbringing than to anything else. We grew up on a farm. We did not have a great deal of money so most of the food we consumed was what was raised in the garden as well as meat that was raised in the barn. Our beauty products were mainly made by our mother from recipes that were given to her by her grandmother. We had natural hair care and facial products long before the current craze.

When we were growing up the big hair look was in. To achieve the fullness that was popular a great deal of styling gel and hair spray was required. We never had to buy any of these products because my mother made them. Creating natural hair care products was part of our chores. My mother had wonderful perennial gardens. The plants however were not just for beauty; she used them to make skin lotions as well as natural hair care products. Flax was the main plant that was used for the hair. Flax have a small blue flower that turns to seed once it has completed blooming. These seeds are then boiled to create a gel that sets the hair. If the gel is watered down and places in a spray bottle it is the same as a firm hold hair spray. My mother would also make shampoo by adding different plants and herbs to homemade soap.

As we got older and money became more plentiful my mother still made her hygiene products because we all liked them better than the harsh chemicals that are in some of the products that you buy in the stores. Today there are many products that are available for natural hair care as well as skin care. When I look at the list of ingredients they are very similar to those that my mother used. She could have been a millionaire if she had marketed her products years ago.

Everyone seems to have their own style and standards when it comes to personal hygiene. There are the parameters that are established by the culture that one grows up with and lives in, but individuals add and subtract from these standards. I am an advocate for person choice and expression, but people do need to be aware how there choices affect those around them.

One thing that many of us seem to forget or not realize is that as we age our facial hair grows longer. Unfortunately our eye sight becomes weaker so we may not always be aware of these hairs. To me one of the more repulsive things is people with long nose hairs. The hairs tend to catch nasal drip and the result is quite unpleasant to look at. A nose hair clipper is easy and safe to use. Unfortunately by time long nose hairs become an issue people are already set in their hygiene routine. For some reason we find it embarrassing to point out to someone if they have disturbing facial hair. I have noticed that during the holiday season there are more nose hair clippers as well as other personal hygiene items on display in gift sets. There are also more advertisements on television at holiday time showing new and convenient hygiene devices.

In a way I find this quite amusing. We are not going to say to Uncle Fred that his long nose hairs are disturbing, but we are going to wrap up a nose hair clipper and give it to him as a gift. I have a friend that is a person care attendant in a facility for the aging. She has a very easy going manner and most of the elderly people she works with look forward to her pleasant smile and personality. She is very matter of fact with the elderly about getting rid of unwanted hairs. She has a tweezers, nose hair clipper and neck hair trimmer in her supply bag at all times. She will tell the women if they have facial hair and she will help them pluck them out. She will show the men how to use the nose hair trimmer and if they are too poor sighted or unsteady with their hands she will do it for them. She laughs that her goal is to rid the world of unwanted facial hair one person at a time. She said that most of the residents that she works with are grateful to her for pointing this out to them. She said for most of them once she has mentioned something they will ask her if the hairs are back. She believes that the problem is not that the elderly no longer care what they look like, it is that they cannot see good enough to notice.

Unlike men, women have a penchant for changing hair color almost as readily as a man might buy a new shirt. Women, by nature, find fashion, ornamentation and looking good to be irresistible. Women are lucky to have so many choices to ponder and indulge. Poor men! When a woman is seriously looking for a new look, hair color is sure to be on her short list. Choosing a hair color is not for the faint of heart. If your choice doesn’t work out, the results can be disastrous and more than a little difficult to fix. Let’s look at some important considerations you’ll want to keep in mind when you set out to choose a hair color.

Unless you’re a teen on a lark, looking for an outrageous statement hair color effect, you need to give some thought to choose a hair color that is compatible with your skin tones. A woman with olive skin tones won’t usually be able to pull off a platinum blonde look. The unnatural look causes the appearance of both skin and hair color to suffer. You’ll also have trouble with your wardrobe as a result. Clothing colors which are flattering to your natural hair color and skin may look garish, or wash out your lovely complexion. For the most stunning effect, choose a hair color in the brunette shades. Hair colors that tend towards the dark-reddish are beautiful on a woman with olive skin tones.

The woman with a true peaches-and-cream complexion can choose any hair color, including black. However, you may want to give your wardrobe a lookover. Some of your favorite clothes may not show to advantage with a different hair color.

Dark-skinned women, such as African Americans, can add subtle sophistication with hair color choices in the dark-reddish, mahogany tones. Such colors enhance the natural beauty of your skin tone. Violet and rust are excellent clothing colors for you.

If your complexion is sallow, you may choose a hair color like strawberry-blond or one of the lighter reds to brighten up your skin tone. Your wardrobe color choices will likely expand if you go from a medium brown to strawberry blond hair color. If you couldn’t wear pastels or olive green before, those colors may become new and complimentary favorites in your closet.

If you just not ready for a complete change of hair color, highlights and streaking are another attractive option. Go to the salon and ask to look at their books of sample highlighting and streaking effects. Find your natural hair color teamed with streaks in various tones and pick!

When you’ve made your decision, go to a salon for the best results. They are pros and do this every day. Besides, it’s fun to have your hair done. No mess or stress and you get it done right the first time. To a more beautiful you!
